Job Description: Position Summary 3M India Personal Safety Division is seeking a technically strong and customer-focused Fall Protection Application Engineer to provide application engineering, technical support, and solution development for fall protection products and systems across India. The role will be responsible for supporting customers, distributors, sales teams, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders in the selection, application, inspection, and use of fall protection solutions. The engineer will translate customer requirements and workplace hazards into technically appropriate fall protection solutions while ensuring alignment with applicable 3M product requirements, engineering principles, and relevant Indian and international standards. The position will work closely with the 3M PSD Sales, Marketing, Application Engineering, Product Development, and Regulatory teams and will play an important role in developing application opportunities and expanding the adoption of engineered fall protection solutions in industrial and infrastructure markets. Key Responsibilities 1. Application Engineering & Technical Solutions Understand customer applications, work-at-height hazards, site conditions, and operational requirements. Recommend appropriate 3M fall protection products and systems based on the application and identified risks. Provide technical guidance on harnesses, lanyards, self-retracting lifelines, anchorage systems, horizontal and vertical lifelines, rescue systems, confined-space access/egress, and other fall protection solutions. Understand basic site layouts, drawings, specifications, and work-at-height requirements to determine appropriate solution approaches. Support technical calculations and application assessments where required Participate in site surveys as required and provide technical recommendations for fall protection system implementation. 2. Customer & Project Support Provide technical support to key customers, EPC contractors, consultants, system integrators, and end users. Conduct customer visits, site assessments, technical discussions, product demonstrations, and application trials. Support major projects from opportunity identification through technical solution development and implementation. Work with customers to identify unmet safety needs and develop application-based solutions. Support troubleshooting of product and application-related issues and coordinate with relevant 3M teams (global technical / quality) when escalation is required. 3. Sales & Business Development Support Support PSD sales organization to identify and develop technical opportunities. Provide technical input during customer meetings, tenders, specifications, and project discussions. Support sales teams in positioning technically appropriate solutions rather than product-only offerings. Identify opportunities for conversion from conventional fall protection practices to 3M solutions. Support opportunity development in industries such as construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, oil & gas, power, utilities, mining, transportation, warehousing, and other work-at-height applications. Maintain an understanding of the project pipeline and provide technical support to priority opportunities. 4. Training & Competency Development Develop and deliver technical training on fall protection products, systems, applications, and safe work-at-height practices. Conduct training for customers, distributors, contractors, safety professionals, and internal sales teams. Support competency development programs for users and channel partners. Conduct product demonstrations and practical application sessions. Support development of technical training material, application guides, presentations, and demonstrations. 5. Standards, Regulations & Technical Knowledge Maintain working knowledge of applicable Indian and international fall protection standards and regulations. Monitor developments in relevant standards and industry practices affecting fall protection. Support the organization in understanding customer and regulatory requirements related to work-at-height safety. Provide technical input into standards, specifications, product approvals, and regulatory activities where required. Maintain strong knowledge of fall protection principles, hierarchy of controls, anchorages, rescue planning, and work-at-height applications. 6. Field Application & Technical Documentation Conduct site surveys and prepare reports. Maintain records of customer technical engagements, site assessments, demonstrations, and application opportunities. Capture field insights and communicate recurring customer requirements to the broader PSD organization. Support development of application case studies and best-practice examples. 7. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with PSD Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Application Engineering, Regulatory, and Global Technical teams. Collaborate with 3M regional and global technical teams on complex applications and new solutions. Support new product introductions and application development. Share technical knowledge and successful application solutions across the India and Asia organization. Key Deliverables High-quality technical support for strategic fall protection opportunities. Development of technically appropriate fall protection solutions for customer applications. Successful technical conversion of identified application opportunities. High-quality customer training and technical demonstrations. Effective support for key projects and strategic accounts. Development and documentation of application engineering knowledge and best practices. Strong collaboration between Sales, Application Engineering, Marketing, and Technical teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in - Mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Typically, 8–10 years of relevant experience in fall protection, work-at-height safety, industrial safety, engineering solutions, construction, infrastructure, or a related technical field. Strong understanding of fall protection principles and work-at-height applications. Experience with customer-facing technical roles, application engineering, engineering services, or technical sales support. Ability to understand technical drawings, site layouts, specifications, and engineering requirements. Willingness to travel extensively across India for customer visits, site surveys, training, and project support. Preferred Experience Experience with fall protection systems, anchorage systems, lifelines, rescue systems, or access/egress systems. Experience in construction, infrastructure, oil & gas, power, utilities, manufacturing, mining Familiarity with relevant Indian and international fall protection standards. Experience with engineered fall protection solutions and site assessments. Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drawing/engineering tools would be an advantage. Experience working with multinational organizations, engineering consultants, EPC contractors, or large industrial customers would be beneficial.
