Sysco LABS’ enterprise technology is present in the end-to-end foodservice journey, enabling the sourcing of food products, merchandising, storage and warehouse operations, order placement and pricing algorithms, the delivery of food and supplies to Sysco’s global network and the in-restaurant dining experience of the end-customer. The Opportunity: We are currently on the lookout for a Senior Technical Operations (Senior Data Operations Engineer) Engineer to join our team. Responsibilities: Maintain the health, availability, reliability, and performance of enterprise data platforms, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure through proactive monitoring and operational support. Implement and enhance observability through monitoring, alerting, and logging to proactively detect, troubleshoot, and minimize data pipeline failures and service disruptions. Provide Level 2 production support for complex incidents, leading technical investigations, validating data integrity, restoring services, and meeting established SLA commitments. Lead technical incident resolution and follow established ITSM processes for incident, service request, problem, change, and knowledge management. Drive problem management by performing root cause analysis, identifying recurring issues, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to reduce repeat incidents. Support and coordinate production changes in accordance with established ITSM change management processes, including impact assessment, approvals, implementation, validation, and post-change verification. Develop and enhance automation using Python and Shell scripting, and optimize AWS and GCP environments to improve reliability, operational efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Create and improve SOPs, troubleshooting guides, knowledge articles, and operational runbooks to strengthen knowledge management and standardize operational practices. Drive continual service improvement by identifying operational gaps, automation opportunities, and improvements to service reliability and efficiency. Collaborate with SREs, Data Engineers, and cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues, improve platform resilience, and mentor junior engineers. Participate in a 24x7 support rotation roster to ensure the continuous availability of business-critical data platforms and services. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering or an equivalent qualification. 3+ years of experience in Data Platform Operations, Production Support, Platform Operations, or a similar role supporting enterprise data platforms. Proven experience providing Level 2 production support, incident management, root cause analysis, problem management, data validation, and service restoration within established SLA commitments. Practical experience applying ITIL principles and ITSM practices across incident, service request, problem, change, and knowledge management processes. Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and Shell scripting, with hands-on experience supporting ETL/ELT pipelines, Apache Airflow/Cloud Composer workflows, and Apache Kafka-based streaming platforms. Experience working with cloud-native data platforms and services on AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Glue, Redshift, Athena, EMR, DynamoDB) and Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Composer, Cloud Storage, Datastream). Hands-on experience implementing observability and monitoring solutions using Datadog or similar platforms. Knowledge of DevOps and DataOps practices including Linux, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), containerization, Git, and automation frameworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical investigations and troubleshoot complex production environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and business teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive operational improvements.
