Systematic Equity – Head of Portfolio Management (United States) – Senior Managing Director

Role Overview State Street Investment Management is seeking a senior investment leader to serve as Head of Portfolio Management, United States, Systematic Equity. This role leads the U.S. portfolio management function, ensuring excellence in portfolio implementation, risk management, client engagement, and product development. You will be responsible for overseeing the portfolio management process and team, supporting commercial growth through client and prospect engagement, and advancing operational efficiency and scalability across Systematic Equity strategies. This position reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer of Systematic Equity. Key Responsibilities Portfolio Management Leadership Lead the U.S. Systematic Equity portfolio management team, ensuring disciplined execution of investment strategies. Oversee portfolio construction, implementation, monitoring, and adherence to client guidelines and investment objectives. Ensure alignment with global investment frameworks and best practices. Act as the senior escalation point for portfolio management and implementation issues. Client & Commercial Engagement Serve as a senior investment representative with institutional clients, prospects, and consultants. Partner with Client Coverage and Product teams to support new business, retention, and mandate development. Clearly articulate investment philosophy, process, performance, and risk management to clients. Contribute to thought leadership and client-facing activities to strengthen Systematic Equity’s market position. Product Development & Growth Drive development of new Systematic Equity products and enhancement of existing strategies. Translate client needs and market opportunities into commercially viable solutions. Support sales growth and asset raising through product positioning and investment expertise. Ensure new offerings are supported by scalable processes and robust controls. Risk, Compliance & Governance Maintain a strong risk and control culture across all portfolio management activities. Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Operations to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal requirements. Monitor investment, operational, and implementation risks, ensuring timely escalation and resolution. Participate in governance forums and investment oversight processes. Process Improvement & Innovation Enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency of the portfolio management operating model across all strategies – active and index. Drive process improvements, automation, and adoption of advanced tools and analytics. Partner with Systematic Equity CIO, Head of EMEA & APAC Portfolio Management, Technology, Trading, and Operations to streamline workflows and improve execution, while developing new / improved operating model. Talent & Organizational Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing portfolio management team. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and performance-driven culture. Support career development, succession planning, and capability building. Financial Management Manage budgets, resourcing, and cost discipline for the portfolio management function. Support profitability of strategies through operational efficiency and scalable processes. Align resource allocation with long-term business and growth priorities. What We Value Strong systematic/quantitative equity investment expertise Proven leadership of portfolio management teams Commercial mindset with client-facing credibility Deep understanding of portfolio construction, risk, and implementation Ability to drive operational improvements and scalable processes Strong judgment in regulated environments Collaborative, results-oriented leadership style Education & Experience 15–20+ years in investment management, preferably systematic or quantitative equity Leadership experience in portfolio management or investment teams Demonstrated success in client engagement and product development Solid understanding of U.S. institutional markets CFA, MBA, or equivalent strongly preferred Salary Range: $225,000 - $337,500 Annual The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
