This role drives technical decision-making, ensures system scalability and reliability, and influences engineering standards and practices across teams.Impact of the RoleDrives development of scalable, high-performance platform services that support enterprise growth and platform adoptionImproves system reliability, performance, and maintainability across the platformEnables reuse and consistency through well-designed services and shared componentsInfluences engineering standards and architectural direction across teamsDrives technical consistency and reuse across teams by establishing patterns adopted beyond immediate scopeWHAT YOU WILL DO:Design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems and servicesLead technical design and solution architecture decisions for features and componentsOwn major services or platform components, ensuring reliability and performanceDrive resolution of complex, cross-system production issues, including root cause analysisEstablish and promote engineering best practices, standards, and reusable patternsMentor and develop engineers across levels, providing technical guidance and coachingCollaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to align technical solutions with business needsContribute to and influence platform architecture and long-term system designDesign and contribute to reusable platform services and shared capabilities that enable multiple teams to build on common infrastructureKey Performance IndicatorsSuccess in this role will be measured through:Reliability and scalability of owned systems and servicesReduction in technical debt and system inefficienciesInfluence on engineering standards, practices, and design qualityEffectiveness in mentorship and team capability developmentContribution to platform-level outcomes and system performanceImprovement in system scalability, reuse, and platform adoption across teamsKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesThe ideal candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:Technical KnowledgeDeep understanding of:Distributed systems and service-based architectureAPI design and integration patternsCloud-native architecture and system scalabilityStrong grasp of performance, reliability, and system design principlesTechnical SkillsAdvanced proficiency in backend engineering (Java, APIs, services)Ability to:Design scalable architectures and servicesOptimize system performance and reliabilityLead complex debugging and root cause analysisExperience with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and system observability toolsCognitive & Problem-Solving AbilitiesSolves complex, ambiguous technical problems across systemsAnticipates risks and proactively mitigates issuesApplies system-level thinking to design and solution developmentCollaboration & InfluenceInfluences technical direction and engineering standards across teamsPartners effectively with cross-functional stakeholdersDrives alignment on technical solutions and approachesLeadership Without AuthorityDemonstrates technical leadership and influence without formal authorityMentors and develops engineers, strengthening team capability and performanceShapes engineering culture and best practicesEducation, Certification and ExperienceRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience5-8+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of systems or servicesPhysical Demands and/or Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
