Job Description SummaryThe Staff Data Engineer builds the hands-on technical backbone of the Defense & Systems Data Fabric: automated metadata ingestion, API and connector integrations, and the policy enforcement engine that turns governance rules into enforced behavior. The role onboards and manages the technical operations of data products in the fabric.Architecture standards come from the Principal Data Architect and governance policy comes from the Sr Principal Technical Product Manager; this role builds to both. Success improves Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost by making data flow reliably and access enforcement provable across hybrid cloud, on-premises, and edge environments.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesThis is the build seat. The Data Fabric's standards, policies, and ontology only become real when the pipelines run and the enforcement holds, and that is this role. You will work across hybrid cloud, on-premises, and customer-site environments in a defense context where access control has to be provable, on a small team where what you build gets used immediately.Pipeline and connector engineeringBuild and maintain automated metadata ingestion pipelines across distributed source systemsDevelop API and connector integrations for new data sources and for data-product delivery, including third-party and customer-site sourcesPlan, schedule, and execute integration work for data products moving through the lifecycleSupport schema-translation pipeline builds in partnership with the Sr Staff Data EngineerPolicy enforcementWire the policy enforcement engine that operationalizes governance rules and the runtime design set by the Principal Data ArchitectImplement policy-as-code and attribute-based access control, including export-control and data-sovereignty enforcementPartner with federated IAM and export compliance architects to validate enforcement logic against the access modelOperations and reliabilityOnboard and manage the technical operations of data products in the fabric: monitoring, alerting, and pipeline reliabilityMaintain technical documentation that federated teams can build againstSupport the 3–5 business-day certification and onboarding SLA with timely technical assessment of submissionsStandards conformanceBuild to the architecture standards set by the Principal Data Architect rather than defining them independentlyRaise gaps in standards back to the Architect with a proposed pattern instead of a local workaroundContribute to the standard work for onboarding data products and operating the fabricRequired qualifications Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Data Pipeline Engineering & Systems Integration or IT. Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience. Eligibility requirementLegal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government SECRET security clearance. Certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer, or Microsoft Azure Administrator or Developer Associate.Experience with hybrid cloud, on-premises, and edge secure connectivity and secure data transmission patterns.Familiarity with metadata-driven governance platforms and with policy-as-code or attribute-based access control.Hands-on pipeline engineering across ingestion, transformation, and orchestration in hybrid environments.API and connector development for both first-party and third-party or customer-site data sources.Comfort operating as a hands-on builder embedded in a lean, standards-driven core team.Defense, aerospace, or other regulated or export-controlled data environment background. Additional Information: The base pay range for this position is $112,000 - $149,000 annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan.
