Career Area: Engineering Job Description: Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. JOB DUTIES Engineers may work in functional areas requiring an engineering degree, including product development, application and installation, validation, reliability, product performance/support and service. The key role of this position is to lead end-to-end validation of Telematics systems and connected services from system requirements through vehicle/machine integration and backend connectivity. · Own planning, definition and execution of end-to-end validation for Telematics products and connected solutions across device, machine/vehicle, wireless network and backend/service interfaces. · Analyze system and feature requirements, define validation strategy, test scope, test methods, acceptance criteria, traceability and coverage for new product introduction and product updates. · Design and execute system-level functional, integration, interoperability, performance, robustness, reliability and regression testing for Telematics features. · Validate end-to-end control & data flow across embedded Telematics hardware/software, CAN/J1939 vehicle networks, GNSS, cellular networks (LTE/5G), Wi-Fi/Bluetooth where applicable, and cloud/backend services. · Validate real-world connectivity scenarios including registration/attachment, data session establishment, roaming, weak/limited coverage, network recovery, power-cycle recovery and long-duration operation. · Perform machine/vehicle integration validation and field testing; reproduce issues with representative system configurations and operating conditions. · Develop and maintain validation environments, test benches, test procedures, test data, simulation/stimulation methods and automation to improve coverage, repeatability and test efficiency. · Perform log capture and cross-layer problem isolation using device, network, CAN/J1939 and backend evidence; drive defect triage with embedded software, systems, cloud/service, wireless, product and supplier teams. · Track defects from discovery through containment, root-cause confirmation, fix verification and regression closure; communicate validation status, risks and release readiness with objective evidence. · Collaborate with global engineering teams, machine system teams, suppliers/ODMs and other stakeholders for integration, validation, issue resolution and product implementation in China and global programs. · Contribute to validation process standardization, reusable test assets, lessons learned and continuous improvement of Telematics system quality. · Ensure validation activities support customer expectations for quality, reliability, schedule and cost. REQUIREMENTS · Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related engineering discipline; 3-5 years of relevant experience. Telematics connected vehicle/machine, telecommunications or automotive/construction machinery experience is preferred. · Strong system validation mindset with experience translating requirements and architecture into executable test strategy, test cases, traceability and objective pass/fail criteria. · Hands-on experience in end-to-end integration and validation of embedded or connected systems, with the ability to isolate failures across multiple subsystems rather than only at component level. · Familiar with LTE/4G, 5G, TCP/IP, GNSS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth fundamentals and common connectivity behaviors; experience with cellular network troubleshooting is preferred. · Familiar with CAN and J1939 communication, message/signal analysis, and common vehicle/machine network debugging methods. · Familiar with embedded Linux systems and software debugging; able to work with device logs, command-line tools and system/network diagnostics. · Experience with test automation or data analysis using Python and/or shell scripting; ability to build repeatable validation utilities and automate regression testing is preferred. · Experience with test bench, simulation/stimulation, logging, packet/network analysis, CAN tools and issue tracking/test management tools is preferred. · Knowledge of system engineering practices including requirement analysis, interface definition, verification/validation planning and requirement-to-test traceability. · Ability to design experiments, analyze failures using evidence, identify root-cause boundaries and communicate clear problem statements to cross-functional teams. · Strong ownership, planning and coordination skills; able to independently manage validation work packages and drive issue closure with minimum supervision. · Good written and verbal English communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams and suppliers. · Competent in standard business tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and Teams. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE · Experience validating telematics, network manager, connected vehicle/machine systems or IoT gateways. · Experience with field/network validation, roaming, carrier interoperability, remote diagnostics, software/firmware update flows or data pipeline validation. · Experience establishing automated regression frameworks, HIL/SIL-style validation environments, or CI-integrated test execution for embedded/connected products. · Experience working with suppliers/ODMs and global development teams through product launch and post-launch issue resolution.
